HOW TO STOW YOUR ROOF TOP TENT TO THE CEILING OF YOUR GARAGE
It's freezing in Canada right now which means unless you're a burly, Canadian man living the #bigfootlyfe, chances are you're not making plans to sleep outside. With that being said, a Roof Top Tent is no small item and it's recommended to be stored 2 inches off the ground to prevent moisture from getting in.
So where do you store it if you don't have much room on the ground? Your garage ceiling can do the trick!
Here's our tried and true tested way to store a Smrt Tent.
-
Setup anchor points onto tent, 2 in the front and 2 in the back. Tent anchors used will vary based on tent
-
Based on the space between tent anchor points, fasten rope rings to the ceiling using 2.5” lag bolts
-
Fasten cleats about 12 inches away from pulley, to provide clearance for tent
-
Use quick links to connect ceiling mounted rings to pulleys
-
Tie rope to security snaps, attach security snaps to tent anchors and feed rope through pulleys
-
Unfasten tent from roof of vehicle
-
With one person on each side of the vehicle tent pull up two corners using ropes fed through pulleys
-
When at desired height, use cleats to keep tent in position
-
Use cargo straps, connecting to rope ring (front to back) and strap securely into place
Pro tips:
• Go with a decent size pulley, and rope. Our rope at times would slip off to the side of the wheel, thicker rope may have been desirable, or just ensure the rope is on the wheel before giving it tension.
• When getting closer to the top, we pulled front by a few inches on its own then the back separately as we found it easier to secure the rope to the cleats this way.
