HITCHWEB SUMMER TIP: CAMPFIRE SAFETY
As you probably heard, British Columbia has declared a state of emergency to support the Province wide response to the ongoing wildfire situation. Before starting that #adventureonwheels and setting up camp and a campfire, here's a few steps to consider to camp smart and safe.
Step 1: Check if there is a fire ban in effect in the area by visiting the Province's Wildfire Service's Page
Step 2: If campfires are permitted, use approved fire rings or pits to build your fire. Clear a 4 foot radius around the fire area and at least 15 feet away from tent walls, hanging branches and vegetation.
Step 3: The best way to extinguish a fire is to let the wood burn completely to ash. If time does not allow that, completely extinguish the fire using water.
Step 4: Those who fail to comply with the fire restrictions can be fined $1,150
If you come across a wildfire, please report it!
